Wine tasting is only part of what makes this a fantastic summer event

Nestled along the scenic twisting banks of the Cannon River, Hannah’s Bend Park is the host site for the Cannon Falls Wine & Art Festival. The event is in its seventh year and features over a dozen regional wineries plus food vendors, and a variety of art to peruse and purchase (over 80 vendors in all.)
One aspect that makes this festival unique is that in addition to wine sampling, you may also purchase bottles to take home, an excellent opportunity to both taste and bring home wine from locations that would otherwise be impossible to visit all in one day — or even two!
There is a limit to the number of bottles you may purchase (6) — the reason? This event holds a special permit to allow the sale of wine at a tasting event. In 2011 they were the first event to lobby for the right to sell wine at events, and now hold one of two licenses available annually in the state to do so. (The other event this year will be the MGGA Summer Wine Fest, August 6 at the Shops in West End, St Louis Park.)
Art & Wine Collide
Sip wine and stroll through art along the Cannon River? Yes, please! The festival is host to many accomplished local artists, artisans and other vendors (over 60.) From pottery and painting to lawn art and everything in-between, here are just a few highlights:
Lawrenz Jewelry (Northfield, MN) creates unique and limited-edition jewlery using up-cycled components and found objects.
Garden Designs & Sculptures is another festival favorite, with metal garden art hand-created by artist Jose Quiroz, in all shapes and sizes.
Adorable dog (and other animal-themed) tableware by artist Tami Anderson of Z Art Designs (Minnetonka, MN) melts hearts, and makes everyone smile!
Luvy Rapp is a barnwood artist local to Cannon Falls, and will be bringing his fabulous birdhouse creations.
Sara Werzel with Auntie B’s wax brings a fine line of hand-poured candles in fantastic fragrances..
And the Festival Food?
It wouldn’t be a Minnesota festival without it! The festival includes Ruhland’s Strudel Haus featuring handmade sweet and savory strudel, White Oak Fired Pizza with crust so crisp and light it melts in your mouth, Cannon Falls local favorite Nick’s Diner, and the Cannon Falls Lions Club with their delicious steak sandwiches (and other grilled favorites including brats and the infamous Spam burger.)

Festival Nitty Gritty
While admission to the festival is free (and parking is free as well), you must purchase tickets for wine tasting. $23 includes 10 tastings, or $33 for 15 wine tastings. Both options include a commemorative take-home wine glass.
Tickets may be purchased in advance at www.cannonfallswineandartfestival.com and onsite the days of the festival.
