A Q&A with Terri Savaryn, owner at Sovereign Estate…
MN-UN: How did you come up with the name “Sovereign” for your winery?
TS: “Sovereign” is the English version of our Ukrainian sir name (Savaryn)
MN-UN: Why did you get into wine-making?
TS: We have the most select site for a vineyard, and a passion for wine and food.
MN-UN: What’s something about Sovereign Estate that you’d like the readers of Minnesota Uncorked to know?
TS: After planting our first vineyard, I became the Director of Marketing for the Minnesota Grape Growers Association and served for 6 years. Sovereign Estates has been an influential leader in the emerging industry and strives to make the finest wines in Minnesota.
MN-UN: Of the wines you produce, which is your favorite & why?
TS: Our Marquette is a world class wine. Enough said.
MN-UN: Tell us about a unique cider or related product you have?
TS: We have started to carbonate some of our wines in stainless barrels. They are fantastic!
We also produce a line of food products that we developed to pair with our wines or to be used in cooking: a Secret Seasoning Mix, an Incredible Cheese Spread, Fig and Plum Jams and Imported Italian Olive Oil.
We also carry original scented candles.
MN-UN: What is your favorite gift/gadget to give, or receive?
TS: We have the local high school make custom wooden wine caddies that hold two wine stems on a yoke that fits over the neck of the wine bottle. You can find them here!
