schram-vineyards-wine-clubSchram Vineyards Winery & Brewery – Waconia, MN

Minnesota’s first combined winery and brewery, Schram offer the unique convenience of selecting from either a vine club, hops club — or both! Choice is key element to this club, and as Troy Seefeldt, Schram’s Member Steward puts it “we took the best of both worlds” providing members both a Schram reserve in each pickup/shipment, along with a member’s choice.

While they do ship (wine) within the state of Minnesota (beer is for pick-up only), the Schram Club is largely also set up to offer a social experience as well. A complimentary tasting along with set pick-up days brings together the club’s community to actually try some of the varieties for their pick-up and choose which one to take home.

alexis-bailly-vineyard-wine-clubAlexis Bailly Vineyard – Hastings, MN

The term “club” almost doesn’t seem exclusive enough for this experience. I had the opportunity to speak to Nan Bailly, winemaker, about the Alexis Bailly Wine Club. She hand-selects each wine for the shipments herself, which are often made exclusively for (and are only available to) members.

This wine club is not just an opportunity to receive reserve and limited edition wines, but an opportunity to be influential in the wines Alexis Bailly is developing.

“Many new wines start out with our wine club” says Nan, and the selections are intended to be “thought provoking” – for example, experimenting with different types of barrel aging and canvassing club members for their feedback.

This spring’s collection includes a white port which Nan was inspired to create from a Brazilian cocktail “Dance all Night” (1 oz white port / 2 oz tonic / twist of orange). A white port was available from Alexis Bailly several years ago but quickly sold out due its popularity.  Taking three years to produce, white port is available again at Alexis Bailly, but only in this spring’s wine club line-up.

Cost per Shipment: $100-140 (6 bottles)
Frequency: Twice yearly (April and September)  –  As of the publication date, April was still available!
Commitment: 1 Year (2 shipments)

You can visit Alexis Bailly Winery about 45 minutes Southeast of the Twin Cities at 18200 Kirby Ave S, Hastings, MN 55033 or online at

Chankaska Creek Winery –  Kasota Minnesota

Offering two levels of membership: Classic (2 bottles per shipment) or Select (a case per shipment) is a nice option for those who may be interested in a smaller volume of wine (from a variety of wine clubs, of course!).

Chankaska Creek’s Wine Circles were established when the winery opened its doors in 2012. Both levels of Circles include a lengthy list of member perks including a dedicated concierge, complimentary tastings, and exclusive invitation-only events. As Jane Schwickert, Chankaska’s general manager puts it, this is a “well taken care of group”.

Cost per Shipment:
Classic $35-75 (2 bottles)
Select $200-300 per shipment (case)
Frequency: Quarterly
Commitment: 1 Year (4 shipments)

You can visit Chankaska just an hour Southwest of the Twin Cities at 1179 East Pearl Street Kasota, Minnesota 56050 or online at
